A photofacial, or “fotofacial,” is a relatively quick procedure in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin. IPL targets the epidermis for a number of concerns including acne, scarring, pigment/melasma treatment, and rosacea. The procedure involves only minimal discomfort, while the redness from the treatment disappear shortly. Most benefits of a photofacial occur gradually in the weeks following treatment and are achieved after a series of treatments are done.
People with untanned skin that is still somewhat elastic are the best candidates for a photofacial. When performed on the right person, it effectively improves skin texture, eliminating discolorations, reducing pore size, and clearing acne. As with many clinical procedures, results are best attained with a combination approach using IPL in conjunction with antioxidant serums, retinol, and client specific serums.
